I have been wanting to write this blog from last weekend, but it seems that school and the internet keep me from doing so. Better late than never!
On September 21, 2013 we all celebrated the 32 years of Belize's Independence. Here is some of the History of Belize in a nutshell....
The country of Belize began with Mayan civilization spread throughout the country. Over time piracy, indiscriminate logging, and sporadic attacks had begun by natives and neighboring Spanish colonies. The first recorded European settlement was established by shipwreck in 1638. Great Britain first sent an official representative to the area in the late 18th century, but Belize was not formally termed the "Colony of British Honduras" until 1840. It became a crown colony in 1862. In June 1973 the name was officially named from British Honduras to Belize, and full independence was granted September 21, 1981.
As a school we were able to be apart of the parade in the town of Punta Gorda. All the schools in the Punta Gorda area also attended. We, as a school decorated a trailer with palm leaves and Belize flags and colors, and had a sound system playing Christian music! Toledo Christian Academy was supposed to be one of the last schools in the parade line, but when they saw the float and heard the music, we were asked to lead the parade! GOD IS SO GOOD!
